Alberta Shines Bright in 2025 Foresight 50

November 5, 2025 by Newsdesk Leave a Comment

Canadian cleantech is rapidly reaching market maturity, with many market-ready solutions now deploying, becoming profitable, and solving real-world challenges for industry leaders across the country.

Last night in Calgary, the energy was electric as Foresight Canada, the nation’s largest cleantech accelerator, revealed its 2025 Foresight 50 — a list celebrating the country’s most investible clean technology ventures. This year’s announcement marks a milestone: all 50 companies are first-time honourees, underscoring the extraordinary depth and velocity of Canada’s cleantech pipeline.

For Alberta, that momentum is tangible. Eight Alberta-based ventures earned their place among the Foresight 50, each tackling climate and energy challenges from unique angles—ranging from carbon capture to geothermal heat.

Alberta’s 2025 Foresight 50 Honourees include:

  • Azolla Hydrogen (Calgary) – Developing low-cost hydrogen production and delivery technologies.
  • Carbonova (Calgary) – Transforming captured carbon into sustainable carbon nanofibres.
  • Chemshift Technologies (Calgary) – Digitally optimizing industrial chemistry for cleaner operations.
  • Excir Works (Calgary) – Pioneering an eco-friendly gold recycling process from electronic waste.
  • HEJMAS Agrifibre Technologies (Calgary) – Converting agricultural waste into high-performance biocomposites.
  • Rainforest Energy (Calgary) – Advancing renewable fuels and bioenergy systems for heavy industry.
  • TerraFerno Geothermal Solutions (Calgary) – Delivering modular geothermal heat solutions for buildings and industry.
  • Grengine (Edmonton) – Engineering modular microgrid power systems that enable energy independence.

“These honourees represent some of the most exciting prospects coming out of Canada’s cleantech ecosystem,” said David Sanguinetti, Interim CEO of Foresight Canada. “Their innovation is actively transforming traditional industries into new strengths, securing economic competitiveness, and creating positive change in our communities and daily lives.”

The Foresight 50 list highlights ventures selected by a panel of independent judges based on investibility, environmental impact, and probability of success. Through the competition, Foresight connects founders with investors, corporate partners, and public sector champions.
