B.C.-based reforestation startup Flash Forest has relocated its primary manufacturing facilities and field-operations hub to Calgary, positioning the city as a key base for scaling advanced reforestation and forest intelligence across Western North America.
The move establishes Calgary as Flash Forest’s western operational headquarters, consolidating manufacturing, equipment staging, and field deployment in a single, purpose-built facility. The company says Calgary’s role as a North American logistics hub — combined with its depth of industrial, manufacturing, and cleantech talent — makes it an ideal location to support large-scale restoration efforts across fire-impacted and degraded landscapes.
Flash Forest’s relocation is supported by Emissions Reduction Alberta, as the company works to move its technologies from proof-of-concept into commercial-scale deployment. Its platform combines drone-based and land-based automated tree planting with expanded species diversity, aiming to improve carbon sequestration outcomes while building more resilient forests.
“This relocation is about more than infrastructure — it’s about being close to talent, industry, and innovation-driven policymakers,” said Cameron Jones, Chief Operations Officer at Flash Forest. “Alberta has built an environment that helps projects move quickly from pilot to scale, while creating advanced manufacturing and upskilling opportunities right here in Calgary.”
Coinciding with the expansion, Flash Forest is launching Forestry Intelligence Services, a new offering designed to help landowners and governments measure reforestation outcomes more accurately and at scale. The platform uses deep-learning models, LiDAR, and multispectral imagery to automate silviculture effectiveness monitoring, enabling remote assessment of forest health, survival rates, and biodiversity.
“By centralizing our equipment in Calgary, we can accelerate iteration and better integrate field data into our models,” said Harpreet Singh, project operational lead. “That leads to stronger outcomes for landowners, Alberta communities, and the province, while reducing logistics-related emissions.”
Flash Forest previously raised an $11.4 million Series A financing round co-led by the TELUS Pollinator Fund for Good, supporting the company’s transition from pilot deployments to scaled restoration projects. With its Calgary expansion, the company is positioning itself to play a growing role in North America’s climate restoration and forest resilience efforts.
