Calgary climatetech startup CURA has won the Web Summit Vancouver 2026 PITCH competition, taking top honours in one of the global conference’s marquee startup showcases.
The competition, brought to Web Summit Vancouver by KPMG, brings together selected early-stage startups for a live pitch battle in front of investors, founders, and global tech leaders.
CURA is developing electrochemical technology aimed at reducing emissions from cement production, one of the world’s most carbon-intensive industries. Its CURALYTE-powered electrolyzer is designed to split limestone into lime and pure CO₂ for storage or use, cutting emissions by up to 85% while lowering energy use and manufacturing costs.
The win caps a strong run for CURA on the global startup stage. Earlier this year, the company reached the semi-finals of the PITCH competition at Web Summit Qatar, where it was recognized among the top companies in the competition.
At Web Summit Vancouver, CURA advanced to the final alongside fellow startups DealStack.ai and Drive Hockey Analytics, a Vancouver company building sensor-powered Smart Arenas for sports AI.
For Calgary, the win marks another high-profile signal of the city’s growing strength in climate technology, industrial innovation, and hard tech. As the global cement industry searches for practical ways to decarbonize, CURA’s victory puts an Alberta-born solution in front of an international audience of investors, partners, and potential customers.
