The federal government is investing nearly one million dollars to help support innovation and science in Alberta.
A sum of $879,065, which hails from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, is earmarked for the TELUS Spark Science Centre.
“TELUS Spark is aptly named,” says Corey Hogan, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. “For 15 years, it has helped spark curiosity, creativity, and a passion for discovery in people of all ages.”
The federal investments builds on $500K from the Department of Canadian Heritage as the facility redevelops with enhanced technologies, including upgrades to the 3,000-square-foot, floor-to-ceiling Digital Immersion Gallery, as well as further utilization of a robotics demonstration platform from Boston Dynamics called Flint.
“By connecting arts with science and technological innovation, the TELUS Spark Science Centre opens the door to new ways of learning, collaboration and critical thinking,” says Marc Miller, who serves as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
Established in Calgary in 2011, the TELUS Spark Science Centre draws 400,000 people annually.
“TELUS Spark engages hundreds of thousands of Calgarians and tourists in visitor experiences that spark the next generation of thinkers and problem solvers,” notes Guy Labine, Chief Executive Officer of the TELUS Spark Science Centre.
“By supporting projects like this, we are building spaces of the future where the next generation of Canadians can learn, innovate, and create,” Miller stated.
“We are proud to support these infrastructure upgrades, which will enhance the Centre’s ability to offer innovative learning experiences through modern digital technologies and interactive programming,” Hogan remarked.
“TELUS Spark is grateful for the continued support of Canadian Heritage through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund,” stated Labine.
“This investment enables us to create dynamic, inclusive spaces where science comes to life,” he continued. “It ensures we can continue inspiring curiosity and learning for all.”
