Tracking a new regulation is only the beginning of the work for a compliance team. The next challenge is understanding how its requirements connect to existing policies, procedures and controls.
Calgary’s Verano.AI is building software to automate that process, from monitoring regulatory updates to identifying obligations and highlighting potential gaps.
Co-founded by Clay Swerdelian and Hugo Kiqumoto, the company serves organizations facing complex regulatory requirements, including businesses in energy and financial services.
Its platform uses AI to classify requirements, map them against internal documentation and suggest changes where gaps appear. The company also offers tools intended to streamline audit preparation and risk reporting.
Verano’s approach includes integration with enterprise systems such as ServiceNow, SAP, IBM and Microsoft, positioning its software within organizations’ existing workflows.
Calgary.tech previously reported Verano’s inclusion in the 2026 RegTech100, an international list of companies working on regulatory technology. The publication also included Verano among its Calgary startups to watch in 2026.
The company’s focus is the work between receiving a regulatory update and knowing what action to take. By connecting external requirements with internal policies, Verano aims to help compliance teams spend less time assembling information and more time evaluating and addressing risk.
Verano.AI is among Platform Calgary’s 2026 Launch Party Top 10. Launch Party, presented by Float, takes place November 5 at the Platform Innovation Centre.
