Calgary-based BigGeo has launched Audience Composer, a platform that helps brands and agencies build digital advertising audiences based on visits to physical locations.
Announced last week, the product allows marketers to create audiences around their own stores, competitors’ locations, or broader business categories, connecting real-world visitation patterns with online campaigns.
Users select locations, date ranges, and filters, then review audience size before publishing to advertising or social platforms. BigGeo says the underlying location data is refreshed at an aggregated level, with customers controlling their audience refresh schedules.
Potential applications include restaurant chains reaching visitors to competing locations, golf brands running retention campaigns, and outdoor advertising operators creating digital audiences around billboards.
“Your budget goes to audiences shaped by the places that drive your business,” said Brent Lane, CEO of BigGeo.
The company says its team will help customers build their initial campaigns before handing over control.
The launch adds an advertising application to the geospatial technology Calgary.tech previously profiled in 2024. That coverage explored BigGeo’s origins within Calgary venture studio Vivid Theory and its use of technology developed at the University of Calgary to process large volumes of location-based data.
Calgary.tech also reported on national recognition for BigGeo lead scientist Dr. Faramarz Samavati, who received a Mitacs Innovation Award in 2025 for his work on a three-dimensional digital Earth system. The research underpins technology being commercialized by BigGeo, with applications spanning agriculture, industrial routing, and climate resilience.
With Audience Composer, the company is bringing that location intelligence into campaign planning, giving marketers another way to define who they want to reach.
