Blackline Safety this month earned multiple awards for its recently launched EXO 8 product.
The Calgary company’s suite of tech-forward safety products helps emergency teams improve situational awareness and make informed decisions in high-risk environments. Safety solutions include connected wearables, portable area monitors, and cloud-based software that provide live monitoring, automatic incident alerts, and location-based insights.
The Alberta firm announced four awards for EXO 8, its latest launch. Released in September, EXO 8 is the world’s only direct-to-cloud portable area monitor capable of detecting up to eight gases as well as gamma radiation.
“Winning four industry awards for EXO 8 is a testament to Blackline Safety’s commitment to driving innovation in connected safety technology,” stated Cody Slater, chief executive officer of Blackline.
Recognition hails from the Red Dot Design Award, a globally recognized symbol of excellence in product design, which highlighted EXO 8 for combining functionality with design based on feedback from users.
“This recognition not only highlights the value we’re bringing to safety professionals worldwide but also reinforces our commitment to redefining what’s possible in proactive safety management,” Slater said.
Additional honours came from the 2025 Occupational Health & Safety Industrial Hygiene Awards, which recognize outstanding product achievements that improve workplace safety through superior industrial hygiene. Blackline received awards in the categories of Emergency Preparedness & Response, Gas & Vapour Detection, and IoT Connected Devices.

Key features of EXO 8 include up to 100 days of battery life, a drop-and-go setup process, and connectivity via cellular or satellite networks, while a modular sensor system allows teams to adapt quickly to changing environments.
Blackline previously won Red Dot Awards in 2017 for its G7 multi-gas detector, and in 2023 for its G6 single-gas detector.
Armed with cellular and satellite connectivity, Blackline provides a lifeline to tens of thousands of people, having reported over 275 billion data-points and initiated over eight million emergency alerts.
2025 has been a big year for Blackline. The company marked its 20th anniversary at its Calgary headquarters with a showcase of its latest innovations, highlighting its role in advancing Alberta’s high-tech manufacturing sector and redefining workplace safety worldwide.
Blackline was also named to Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies of 2025. And they’re seeing major growth among certain customer segments.
