At the Global Energy Show Canada 2025, held at Calgary’s BMO Centre from June 10 to 12, several Calgary-based companies were recognized for their outstanding achievements in energy technology and innovation. The awards program focused on leadership, sustainability, and the advancement of the energy industry, with Calgary’s homegrown tech companies taking center stage.
Here’s a look at the Calgary companies that earned awards this year:
Disruptive Digital Innovator – RevSolz
Marc Mukhtarli, CEO and Co-Founder of RevSolz, accepted the hotly contested award for their FracSol platform, a game-changing digital oil field solution. FracSol optimizes hydraulic fracturing operations by combining real-time monitoring, intelligent analytics, and automation. The platform enhances efficiency, reduces costs, and empowers operators to make smarter, safer, and more sustainable decisions in their operations.
Emerging Clean Technologies – Carbonova
Dr. Mina Zarabian, CEO and Co-Founder of Carbonova, accepted the Emerging Clean Technologies award for their innovative carbon nanofiber technology. Carbonova’s scalable, eco-friendly solution uses captured CO2 and methane to produce carbon nanofibers, which have applications in industries such as plastics, composites, and construction.
Emerging Leader – Dr. Mina Zarabian, CEO, Carbonova
Dr. Zarabian was also recognized as an Emerging Leader at the event. Her leadership has propelled Carbonova from its inception in 2019 and pilot production all the way to its first Commercial Demonstration Unit, making significant strides in the cleantech sector each year.
Excellence in Energy Research – University of Calgary
Dr. Milana Trifkovic, a Professor at the University of Calgary, accepted the award for her team’s pioneering research in nanomaterials. Her innovative work on AsphaDots – tiny carbon dots derived from oil sands asphaltenes – could transform an abundant petroleum byproduct into a valuable resource. Dr. Trifkovic’s breakthrough allows for low-temperature synthesis with high yields, making it a cost-effective and sustainable solution for creating carbon dots.
Innovation in Technologies: Equipment or Process Controls – Scovan
Jane Cavanagh, VP of Projects and Operations, accepted the award for Scovan, a Calgary-based engineering and fabrication company. Scovan’s HipVap technology revolutionizes steam generation in the SAGD (Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage) industry by eliminating traditional water treatment. HipVap’s indirect-fired steam generation system reduces capital and operating costs while unlocking new economic possibilities for both new and existing oil resources.
Powering the Future – Remote Power
Alex McEwen, COO and Co-Owner of Remote Power, was on hand to accept the award for his company which is transforming remote power generation by providing cost-effective, low-emission alternatives to diesel generators. Their power systems operate on natural gas, biogas, and blended hydrogen, helping to significantly reduce costs and emissions. The company specializes in electrifying remote oil and gas sites, mining operations, and construction sites, providing a cleaner and more reliable power solution for off-grid locations.
For the winners this year, recognition in their respective categories provides both a credibility boost plus it can open doors to new business opportunities, increased funding, and greater visibility. As Calgary’s energy tech ecosystem continues to grow, the Global Energy Show Canada Awards remain a great platform for emerging companies to showcase their disruptive technologies.
