Calgary-based Blackline Safety has appointed Vasi Philomin, Executive Vice President of Data and AI at Siemens and the creator of Amazon Bedrock, to its Board of Directors.
The move follows a string of recent milestones for the company, including the expansion of its in-house quality assurance program in Calgary and its first purchase order from the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
A recognized leader in enterprise AI and industrial IoT, Philomin brings a proven track record in scaling hardware-enabled SaaS (HeSaaS) platforms—a perfect match for Blackline’s mission to use connected data and AI to enhance worker safety and productivity.
The appointment builds on the company’s growing reputation for innovation, highlighted when Fast Company named Blackline to its 2025 list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for its EXO 8 area monitor.
“Vasi’s leadership at the intersection of AI, cloud, and industrial technology is uniquely aligned with Blackline’s mission to transform safety through connectivity and data-driven intelligence,” said Cody Slater, CEO and Chair of Blackline Safety.
“His insight into AI and success in scaling HeSaaS businesses will bring invaluable guidance as we deepen our work in predictive safety, real-time situational awareness, and next-gen services that protect workers worldwide.”
Philomin, on joining the board, said: “Blackline’s leadership in IoT-enabled safety—giving organizations the data they need to make better decisions—is truly inspiring. I’m excited to contribute to Blackline’s next chapter, helping maximize the impact of that data to ensure every worker returns home safely.”
In his current role at Siemens, Philomin is responsible for accelerating the company’s AI portfolio across industrial applications. At Amazon, he led the creation of Amazon Bedrock, empowering enterprises to build and scale generative AI applications, and shaped AWS’s broader generative AI and product strategy.
Prior to that, he pioneered connected lighting solutions at Philips for iconic projects like the Empire State Building and the Bay Bridge. With more than 100 U.S. patents, Philomin brings both deep technical expertise and a proven ability to commercialize innovations with significant impact.
