Earlier this year, we reported on automation innovator Promise Robotics expanding operations with a 60,000-square-foot warehouse in Calgary, where the local firm will deploy advanced production lines to accelerate home construction.
The expansion has received millions of dollars in support from Prairies Economic Development Canada’s Regional Homebuilding Innovation Initiative.
Promise Robotics’ Factory-as-a-Service platform is designed to give builders “push-button” home manufacturing for faster build times, greater efficiency, and reduced costs.
“Promise Robotics has developed an industrial backbone to retool and enable homebuilders and manufacturers across many communities,” explains Ramtin Attar, a cofounder of Promise.
This week, the 2024 Proptech Showcase winner announced a multi-year strategic commercial partnership with the Alberta Division of Mattamy Homes, a major family-owned homebuilder, which Promise Robotics describes as a “major milestone” toward scaling its technology across North America.
“We are thrilled to have Mattamy Homes’ Alberta Division join our Robotic Factory-as-a-Service platform in Calgary,” stated Attar.
Through the collaboration, technology from Promise Robotics will support Mattamy Homes in delivering single-family, semi-detached, and multi-family residences across two master-planned communities in Alberta.
By integrating Promise’s AI and robotics-powered automation technology with Mattamy’s Alberta operations, the partnership will showcase how advanced technology can enhance scalable, quality construction amid ongoing housing and labour shortages, according to a statement from the firms.
“Our partnership with Promise Robotics is an exciting opportunity to explore new ways of building,” commented Collin Campbell, who serves as President of Mattamy Homes’ Alberta Division.
“By further investing in automation,” he continued, “we can improve efficiency and consistency in the homebuilding process, while also embracing technology to support sustainability, affordability and future growth.”
Promise’s proprietary platform provides turnkey industrial robotic systems powered by cloud-based software that manages the full production lifecycle, from blueprint to on-site assembly, which “is opening up new ways for us to think about building at scale through prefabrication and automation,” according to Chris Field, Vice President of Finance & Procurement for Mattamy Homes’ Alberta Division.
“There’s incredible potential in the efficiencies this technology can bring,” he said, “and we’re eager to learn and apply it as it continues to evolve.”
