Federal Investment of $20M Targets 13 Clean Energy Projects Throughout Alberta

June 25, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

The federal government is investing in more than a dozen projects throughout Alberta to advance clean energy innovation across Canada’s industrial sector.

The $20M worth of investments hail from the Green Industrial Facilities and Manufacturing Program and the Energy Innovation Program.

The GIFMP supports energy efficiency and energy management solutions in Canada’s industrial sector, while the EIP advances clean technologies that will help Canada maintain a reliable and affordable energy system while transitioning to a low-carbon economy.

“Alberta’s energy sector plays a critical role in Canada’s economy,” explains Corey Hogan, who serves as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

“Our government is making sure the sector is modern and efficient so it can continue to do so for years to come,” the minister stated.

Emissions Reduction Alberta garnered $10M to help the organization support industrial facilities throughout the province.

VulcanX Energy attracted $1M to complete a Front-End Engineering Design and a partial Detailed Engineering Design of a pre-commercial hydrogen production plant based on natural gas pyrolysis technology.

The University of Alberta drew $500K to conduct a field trial of underground hydrogen storage in salt formations to advance knowledge and data in support of future large-scale hydrogen storage in Canada.

McCain Foods Canada secured $3.7M to implement energy management information systems and energy efficiency–focused capital retrofits at facilities in Alberta.

EQUS REA garnered $2.5M to demonstrate how electric vehicle chargers and battery storage can provide power back to the grid to improve grid reliability.

EPCOR Water Services, ARC Resources, and CSV Midstream Solutions, and others also attracted capital.

“These investments support practical solutions that improve energy performance, strengthen electricity systems, reduce emissions, and help Alberta’s industries be more competitive in rapidly changing global markets,” Hogan remarked.
