An Alberta startup wants to help teams get deals done by using modern technology.
Founded in 2017 by Amir Reshef and Mike O’Connor, Edmonton’s DealCloser offers a digital platform that helps lawyers and teams manage complex transactions from start to finish, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate closings, financing deals, and private equity work.
DealCloser’s flagship product is Cloe, an AI-powered toolkit unveiled earlier this year.
Unlike bolt-on tools, Cloe is directly embedded into the transaction workflow, expanding a company’s AI foundation with an agent-driven, context-aware assistant that reduces administrative burden, surfaces insights, accelerates deal velocity, and simplifies complex closings, according to a statement from the firm.
“AI shouldn’t compete with lawyers,” offers O’Connor, who serves his startup as CTO. “It should collaborate with them.”
The tech “should understand their deals, anticipate their needs, and handle the tedious work so they can focus on strategy and achieving the best outcomes for their clients,” he says. “That’s the philosophy behind Cloe.”
Cloe gives legal teams two ways to put AI to work in their deals: through guided workflows as well as through a conversational interface that allows users to ask questions and get answers in real time as naturally as they would with a colleague.
The assistant learns from deal documents, transaction history, and how similar matters were managed, building context-aware “institutional intelligence.”
Cloe also tracks what’s complete, what remains outstanding, and who is responsible, going so far as to automatically create tasks, assign owners, and send reminders to keep deals moving forward.
“We’ve unlocked indisputable [return on investment] with Cloe,” Jag Dhariwal, CEO of DealCloser, commented in March. “In some processes, such as signature management, tasks are now nearly fully automated, from extracting signature pages to placing DocuSign tabs automatically.”
“Administrative time is reduced to almost nothing,” Dhariwal said, and “this is just one example and only the beginning of what our AI can do.”
