Calgary startup Tagsight has joined the Google for Startups Cloud Program as it builds software to help engineers turn complex drawings into usable data.
Founded earlier this year, Tagsight reads piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and other engineering drawings, extracting information that project teams would otherwise compile by hand.
“We built Tagsight because the instrument index, I/O list, and tag register that a project runs on still get rebuilt from a drawing set by hand, on every revision,” says founder Muaawia Jannat, who studied computational applied mathematics at the University of Calgary.
The software works with scanned drawings and computer-aided design exports. It identifies and classifies equipment and instrument tags, highlights changes between revisions, and exports the results to spreadsheets and engineering software. Engineers confirm each reading before the data is exported.
The Google program gives startups access to technical support, mentors, industry experts, and technologies including Google Cloud and Firebase. Tagsight’s participation follows its July announcement that it joined the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Program.
Tagsight says it has reached users in more than 30 countries, with pricing starting at $330 per month.
According to Jannat, project data is encrypted, can be deleted, and is not used to train AI models. He also says Tagsight complies with Canadian, European, and California privacy regulations.
