Calgary-based clean energy startup Serenity Power has claimed another major win on the national stage, securing $100,000 from angel investors at The Firehood through the Elevate Women+ Pitch Prize in Toronto.
Founded by a team of U of T Engineering graduates, Serenity Power develops solid oxide fuel cell technology that converts fuels like diesel into clean electricity through electrochemistry. The company’s innovation is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in heavy-emitting sectors such as mining, oil and gas, data centres, and remote utilities.
The Elevate win adds to a string of recent successes for the startup. In July, Serenity Power earned a $100,000 Black Entrepreneur Investment Prize at Montréal’s Startupfest, drawing national attention for its potential to decarbonize off-grid and industrial power generation.
Serenity Power was among 40 women-led companies selected for a five-week virtual incubator ahead of Elevate Festival, which culminated with 12 finalists pitching live to investors. The annual event, now in its seventh year, brought together thousands of founders, funders, and industry leaders to spotlight Canada’s growing innovation ecosystem.
