Blackline Safety Unveils Future-Proofed G8 Device, the ‘Most Connected Wearable’ Yet

January 14, 2026 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

Blackline Safety this week announced G8, which the Alberta firm describes as the “most connected wearable” it has ever built.

The G8 was designed “from the ground up as a true platform,” according to the Calgary-based company, with the device offering advanced gas detection, lone worker protection, and radio-quality communication within one rugged unit that connects workers to each other and their safety teams through real-time data streamed to the cloud.

“G8 gives workers access to the tools and information they need to confidently get the job done and get home safe,” explains Blackline chief executive officer Cody Slater.

“By unifying gas detection, real-time monitoring, and communication in one connected device, we’re delivering more than incremental improvement,” Slater believes. “We’re giving every worker a direct line to the people, data, systems and support they need to make faster, safer decisions.”

Unlike traditional gas detectors, Slater says the G8 functions as a connected platform that’s built to be able to integrate with the rest of the digital worksite. It’s future-ready and will continue to evolve with new capabilities, expanded integrations, and emerging technologies like AI-driven insights.

“We’re talking about a platform built to grow with you,” says Phil Benson, who functions as vice president of product for Blackline Safety.

“As worksites become more connected, automated, and data-driven, G8 has the flexibility to meet tomorrow’s needs, not just today’s,” Benson says.

Utilizing more than a dozen patents with more pending, G8 “lays the foundation for future capabilities like AI integrations, expanded calling features, and predictive analytics that will continue to raise the bar for connected work for years to come,” according to Benson.

Other products from Blackline, such as the EXO 8, have been recognized as game-changer devices for sector safety.

Founded in Calgary in 2004, the publicly traded Blackline Safety last year made Deloitte’s 2025 Technology Fast 500 and was recognized as Anchor of the Year in Alberta’s 2025 Tech Awards.
