Moovez Taps into Canada’s Gig Economy with On-Demand Moving Service Platform

November 19, 2024 by Knowlton Thomas Leave a Comment

“Moving is awesome!” said no one ever.

Whether dealing with condo tower elevator nightmares to managing multiple trucks stuffed with the vast contents of a full house, the experience of moving from one abode to another is seldom as smooth or simple as we naively hope.

Reducing the friction impacting that process is the motivation driving moovez, a Calgary startup on a mission to improve the moving experience for Canadians.

The company operates an online platform that taps into the modern gig economy to provide users with on-demand moving services.

“Move-in day? Move-out day? Can’t fit that massive couch from Kijiji in your car? Last-mile delivery challenges with your business? Our on-demand moving and delivery service has you covered,” states the company online.

After filling in details such as location, a user is paired by the platform with a local mover. Vehicle options range from a pickup truck or cargo van to 26-foot moving truck.

On the other side of the coin, able-bodied Canadians can consider adding on-demand moving services to their gig portfolio. Movers are expected to possess their own vehicle, although those without a truck can still sign up to “help with the heavy lifting and not the transporting.”

Movers can earn up to $1,700 per week before tips, the company claims. And with teamwork often a necessity, movers are encouraged to sign up with friends.

Moovez is among the handpicked companies set to pitch to an audience of investors and tech enthusiasts when the Launch Party of Innovation Week YYC brings together the city’s most promising tech startups at Big Four Roadhouse.
