We recently reported on a Vancouver company expanding into Calgary that refers to itself as the “Uber for laundry.”
WeDoLaundry’s valet service picks up dirty clothing from your location; has it washed at a professional laundromat or cleaner nearby; and returns garments dry and folded.
It’s a great idea, but hardly the only one to benefit from that kind of Uber-like valet service.
Alberta’s WiDrive is operating on a similar concept—only instead of laundering your clothes, their automotive technicians will fix your car in your own garage or driveway.
The process is not complicated, according to WiDrive.
First, select from over 200 different automobile services. Next, receive multiple quotes from mobile mechanics “with one tap,” and then view profiles and reviews of mechanics to determine the best one for your fix. From there, a selected mechanic will arrive at your home (or parking lot, or side of the road) for a diagnosis or repair.
“WiDrive provides the simplest and most convenient way of getting your car repaired at your location,” the digital-forward startup states online. “With us, you’re not just getting a mechanic; you’re getting an automotive experience tailored to your specific needs.”
WiDrive is among the latest startups in the Alberta Catalyzer Velocity in Southern Alberta.
Taking place on the eve of Calgary Innovation Week, the Alberta Catalyzer Velocity South Showcase on November 14 kicks off the biggest week of the year for the Calgary tech ecosystem.
The Velocity showcase is the culmination of an eight-week program where entrepreneurs work with industry experts and coaches to take their business to the next level in establishing a strong go-to-market strategy, polishing their pitches, and working towards qualifying for scale-up accelerators.
“Our journey began with a vision to revolutionize car maintenance and repair services, and this opportunity takes us one step closer to achieving that dream,” WiDrive said in a statement following the announcement of their Catalyzer acceleration. “Stay tuned for some exciting updates as we continue to grow and innovate.”
WiDrive’s mobile mechanic platform currently serves the Calgary area, including Chestermere, Airdrie, and Okotoks. Services include wheel and tire changes, battery jumps, key services, and routine maintenance.
The tech startup was founded in Calgary in 2020.
